As a senior student, I will explain to you today, step-by-step , how to answer short questions in your B.Sc Exam answer sheet.

Many students know the answer in B.Sc Semester Exam but still lose marks because they do not present the answer properly.

Whenever you answer a short question in the B.Sc Botany examination, first read the question carefully and understand exactly what the question is asking.

Then write your answer in a proper sequence.

Step 1: Give a short Introduction

Start your answer with a short and simple introduction related to the question.

Step 2: Write the main points

After the introduction, explain the answer point by point.

Avoid writing very long paragraphs. Use headings and points wherever possible.

Step 3: Use a Flowchart when required

If the topic can be explained easily with a flowchart, use a simple flowchart.

A flowchart can make your answer easier to understand and can improve the presentation of your answer.

Step 4: Draw a diagram when required

If the question is related to a diagram, make a neat and properly labelled diagram.

Always give proper names to the important parts of the diagram.

A clean diagram with correct labelling can make your answer more complete and help you present the answer effectively.

Step 5: Review and summarize your answer

For a 5-mark question, try to include:

Short introduction

Important points

Proper headings

Flowchart, where required

Diagram, where required

Correct labelling

This type of presentation can help you write a better examination answer.

So, let's go through some questions related to the 'Algae' topic from the Phycology and Microbiology syllabus. Which is the MJC-1 paper for the B.Sc. Botany Semester 1.

Q. How are algae classified ?

 Answer:

Algae are primitive members of plant Kingdom. They are chlorophyll - bearing organisms and chlorophyll helps them carry out the photosynthesis process. they have a  thalloid body organization, Meaning true roots, leaves and stems are completely absent in algae. They are autotrophic organisms and can be found in unicellular, colonial and multicellular forms.

Algae are mostly found in freshwater and marine water habitats. They reproduce through vegetative, asexual and sexual methods.

Algae are classified into different groups on the basis of their pigments, stored food, cell wall composition, and flagellation structure.

Algae are divided into three major classes :

1. Green Algae (Chlorophyceae)

•Green algae are green in colour because they mainly contain chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b .

• They are mostly found in freshwater.

• Their cell wall is made of cellulose.

• Their stored food is mainly starch.

• Examples: Chlamydomonas, Volvox, Spirogyra .

2. Brown Algae (Phaeophyceae)

Brown algae are brown in colour because they contain chlorophyll a, chlorophyll c and brown pigment called fucoxanthin.

• Most of them are found in marine water.

• Their stored food is in the form of mannitol and laminarin.

• Examples: Sargassum, Laminaria

3. Red Algae (Rhodophyceae)

Red algae are red in colour because they contain chlorophyll a, chlorophyll d and a red pigment called r-phycoerythrin.

• Most red algae are found in marine water.

• Their stored food is in the form of floridean starch.

• Examples: Polysiphonia, Gelidium, Gracilaria
